Spectrum Video and electrical was founded in 1982 by Bill Russell, mainly
renting TV’s, VCR’s and video films. The original shop was
in King Street but the company soon out grew this small shop and moved
into Hallgate, where they had a shop in the old Co-op building. During
this time, Bill was joined by his sons, Nick and Dave and again the business
outgrew the new premises. In 1992 Spectrum again moved into their current
premises at 197 Hallgate and is now run by son Nick, along with a staff
of six, one who has been there since the original shop.
The business now trades from a 2,000 sq ft showroom which is split between
brown and white goods as well as its out warehouse and customer car park.
In order to compete with the multiples Spectrum Video and Electrical is a founder member of Euronics, part of a European buying group whose buying strength enables the independent dealer to compete.
The friendly well trained staff is well equipped to deal with most enquiries
and have internet access to stock availability at most of the major manufacturers.
This enables them to confirm when ordered goods will arrive. Customers
orders are then delivered free of charge on our own van and where possible
installed and demonstrated.
Because of this approach to customer service Spectrum Video and Electrical
were the first winners of the ‘Independent Electrical Dealer of the
Year’ award in 1999, presented by Domestic and General following
the results of a customer satisfaction survey.
